I am Alessandro Zirilli, a PhD candidate in Computer Science at Sapienza University of Rome (🇮🇹). I have a bachelor’s in mathematics, and a master’s in Computer Science, both from Sapienza. However, during my master’s I’ve been adopted by TUM (🇩🇪), where I spent half of the program as an exchange student, and where I also did my master’s thesis research with prof. Laura Leal-Taixé.
To be honest, research is at a fresh start. During my internship at Gladia, I’ve only had the oppurtunity to explore a few areas of Deep Learning, but with the official start of my doctorate I will for sure explore many more.
So far I have worked on Reinforcement Learning, especially applied to games, with my bachelor’s thesis “Deep Learning for Hex”; and Computer Vision, with my master’s thesis “Efficient Sam2”. Check the blog posts, I didn’t upload the full versions of the theses as I’ve imagined that you nobody would read 50+ pages…
My research activity apart from the curricular path has been mainly focused on Model Merging, that is also the topic of my first research paper “MASS” (actually is MoErging, but they are close enough).
I am currently, and have also worked in the past, on Model Interpretation, that really sparks my curiosity, so I hope to explore it more in the future.
The Person #
I’m 24, and I’ve always been living in Rome, next to world’s most beautiful park “Parco degli Acquedotti” (my personal ranking obviously), since last year when I moved to Munich for one year (that by coincidence has world’s second best park, “Englischer Garten”, same journal).
I am a curious person (would never have guessed it, a curious researcher?!), and I love understanding how things work, but apart from that I’m also interested in a lot of other things.
Some examples are: wristwatches, sports (almost any but especially 🥋⛷️🏋🏻♂️🏊), languages (🇮🇹🇬🇧🇫🇷, my Duolingo is set on 🇩🇪 now), creating websites (like this amazing one 👨💻), but also photography, cooking, history, travelling… I mean, I get passionate about things easily.
Apart from that, I divide my time between a lot of different things, but I always try to keep a balance. 🧘
